    I certainly recall my first “we need to define your characters” meeting and to this day I still don’t place a lot of credibility in people who focus on this. Managers should assemble a team of characters they think fits the target audience of the station. You can’t make the news sidekick chick funny if she’s not but if you want a funny one then you better not hire the one who’s serious all the time and seems to have the weight of the world on her shoulders (been there……). Likewise don’t ask your main host to go out and do crazy stunts if you want him seen as the pro on the show who donates his time to charity and needs to be credible when serious things happens in your community.
