Mind your own business
For those of us on the programming side of radio it’s never too late to learn about the business side. If the color of the corporate logo on your paycheck is the extent of your knowledge of your company, do yourself a favor and take 20 seconds to be better informed. Go to Google News and, in quotes, search for your company’s name (e.g. “Miller Broadcasting”). Once Google delivers the latest news to your screen click the “News Alerts” link on the left side of the page. Now tell Google to email you once a day with the latest company headlines.

In these days of downsizing, its a great idea to position yourself as an asset not a liability. The more you know about your company or the station you work in and all the intertwinings of every day stuff, the more of an asset you are.
Someone once asked me to name 100 great people I know in radio. Couldn’t do it. Then 50. Same situation 25? I can do 25. Then that person told me…”go be one of those 25″. I do that everyday. Anyone can read a liner card, a spot, write a psa…but if we had to could we step up and run the joint?
